1. Stop by a currency exchange location. These are available in the airports throughout the country and on street corners in major tourist-based areas (such as Kuala Lumpur and Penang).
2. Exchange your British pounds at the hotel you are staying at. Most hotels throughout the country offer currency exchange options for widely used currency, such as the U.S. dollar, euro and pound.
3. Visit an ATM. These are all over the country, and it is possible to use your UK-based debit card in the machine and withdraw ringgits. This is helpful when you don't have any spare cash on you. Your bank automatically converts the ringgits to pounds so it knows exactly how much to withdraw from your account.
4. Stop by a local bank. Most banks in Malaysia offer currency exchange due to the high amount of international business and travelers the country sees (especially in Kuala Lumpur). This is often where the best currency exchange rate is found.
