1. Search on the Internet for 'online currency converter'. A list of the most popular currency converter websites will pop up. These include XE Converter, OANDA and Yahoo! Currency Converter. Select one.
2. On the website, where indicated, select from a menu of currency options the type of currency you have, the U.S. dollar.
3. Select the amount of money you have or would like to know the value of in the box indicated. This should say 'Amount', typically underneath the box where you selected the current currency.
4. Where indicated, select Canadian dollar for the second set of currency menu options, which will be labeled along the lines of 'currency I want' or 'convert to'. The currency value of the Canadian dollar compared to the U.S. dollar will automatically be shown. On some websites, you may have to select a 'convert' button before seeing the value, however.
