1. Go to Investopedia.com. This free site offers lots of tutorials and mock exams. Its most useful tool, though, is the trading simulator. This tool allows you to practice trading both stocks and options. It gives you the opportunity to practice your skills in a safe environment without risking real capital. The site also has hundreds of articles written by professional traders, as well as a comprehensive dictionary of trading terms.
2. Join INO TV (See Reference 2). This is for the self-directed trader who already knows what he or she wants to learn. INO TV has hundreds of training videos and e-books from some of the most successful traders in the world. They are delivered though online video seminars. Many of the videos also come with accompanying e-books. As of 2010, the initial sign-up is free; the membership price is $49 per month.
3. Sign up with CyberTradingUniversity. This site offers courses not only in stocks, but in options, the Forex currency exchange and futures trading as well. It has several free courses in the basics, such as an introduction to the different styles of trading and the best markets in which to trade. The paid courses are a combination of webinars and DVDs so you will be both studying on your own and getting training in a live environment, where you can ask questions and interact with the instructors. As of 2010, the platinum course for stock trading costs $3,995.
4. Get references from traders who have attended the courses. A good place to go for unbiased trading advice is EliteTrader.com. This is one of the biggest and oldest trading forums, a place where both professional and retail traders go to get advice. There are hundreds of reviews of trading courses, brokers, software and books. If the trading course you are looking for isn't listed, you can post a question in the forum and usually get an answer fairly quickly. No affiliate links are allowed, so you will get honest answers.
