How to Convert GBP to Rupees

Posted by at 1:20 AM Read our previous post

1. Find out the current exchange rate of GBP/INR, which is the foreign exchange code for the British pound/Indian rupee cross. You can do so online by using a free currency converter such as XE, OANDA, or Yahoo! Finance (see Resources). The exchange rate you'll get will serve as a reference point for the retail rate that you will want to get. Remember that this exchange rate is an interbank rate, and the exchange rate you will receive will likely be somewhat different.
2. Research GBP/INR rates from the nearest major bank branches or currency exchange desks. Some banks have the same exchange rates across all branches while others leave it for the local manager to decide. In any case, verify the exchange rate before going to the bank or the currency exchange desk.If your bank doesn't quote GBP/INR, but offers GBP/USD and USD/INR rates separately, you can easily calculate how many rupees you'll get for a pound by multiplying GBP/USD by USD/INR.
3. Identify the bank branch or currency exchange desk with the highest exchange rate and do the conversion. Make sure you bring some ID with you, as many banks require that because of money-laundering concerns these days.
